Chaldon HerringTucked into small chalk valleys a short way to the east of Weymouth the village of Chaldon Herring (or East Chaldon) consists of a small handful of dwellings, a church, a village hall and a public house. The pictures in this gallery follow a circular walk taken in late January, following an anti-clockwise route through the valleys and along the nearby coastal cliffs.

Starting in Chaldon Herring (SY 790 831) the route heads westwards through West Chaldon up onto the down at Holworth, where undulations in the fields are all that remain of the original medieval village of Holworth. Turning south the route eventually reaches the chalk cliffs overlooking Ringstead Bay, then turns eastwards to follow the South West Coast path past Whitenothe Cottages situated atop a windswept and exposed headland. A short way beyond the memorial to Llewelyn Powys (and the sculpture 'cupboards') the route turns northwards and follows a permissive path past Chideock Farm, down another small valley cut through the chalk, returning to Chaldon Herring once more.
