Wimborne Christmas Lights

December 2000 starts with the ceremonial switching-on of the new Christmas lights in Wimborne. After much fund raising the town manages to put in a new set of fittings and lights – with a promise of more lights to come in future years. The occasion is marked with carols and a short blessing in the square, followed by a volley from the local militia at the instant that the new lights are switched on. Throughout the town shop windows pick up on the Christmas theme, with snow (rare in Dorset) and Santas (common) abounding.
